It’s has been a beautiful journey of mentorship for ten months. Much has been shared with me and it has had a major impact on me. I have learned a lot. Great opportunities have been given to me. It all started in November 2020 where I was given an opportunity to be a member of the Strategic Transitions Incubator program. The program was founded by Dr Yonette Thomas, who is also the founder of Urban Health 360. She is a great mentor.

At first, I had little or no expectations about the training, but I can now proudly say it was worth it. I remember the first question I had to answer which I had never thought of until that moment. Who are you? A tough but important question. I have learnt a lot of things ranging from my landscape, ecosystem, and bearing fruits. Regarding my landscape, I have learnt how to connect my individual self to my professional self and to knowing what I stand for, what sets me apart, my avatar, and my values. With regard my ecosystem, I have learnt how to build my professional network. I now have an active LinkedIn profile where I can share my achievements, get opportunities, and gain global connections.

The Strategic Transitions Incubator program has also taught me how to conduct research. This is one part that I enjoyed so much, and I know it will have value for me professionally soon. I hope to utilize all I have learnt in inspiring and creating opportunities for the youth in my community and to provide solutions to the global health issues. This opportunity has made me realize who I am professionally and personally. Dr Yonette Thomas had helped me understand this saying: “what we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.”
